Search Roane County Court Dockets

A Roane County court docket is the public record of cases, filings, settings, and court action maintained by the responsible clerk. To search the Roane County court docket, begin with the court level, then use a party name or case number. The county portal reaches Circuit Court and General Sessions, while Chancery, Probate, juvenile, and city matters have separate custodians. The online result helps locate a case, but it is not the official record. Important dates, filed orders, and certified copies should be confirmed with the clerk who holds the original Roane County docket.

The Roane County Online Court Records System serves one office's entries rather than a single statewide file.

The portal directs a Roane County docket search into participating local offices.

The search form offers a Party Name field, an older Case Reference option, Case Year, and Case Number. Court choices are Circuit Court and General Sessions; type choices are Criminal and Civil. Every box starts out checked.

Court Dockets: What They Show

A docket is a running list of court activity. Each entry tells you one thing that happened. Roane's General Sessions PDF packs in the details: a generated timestamp, the court, the Kingston location, the docket title, the setting date and time, the judge, and the case number. It also carries an internal reference. Officer or party labels, the attorney, the count, the statute, and the charge text appear as well. Violation date, arrest date, and citation number show up when they matter to the case.

Case numberThe formatted identifier and sometimes an older reference.
PartiesNames and roles such as accused person, opponent, officer, or attorney.
EntriesFiled events, counts, motions, orders, or other activity available in that view.
SettingDate, time, court, location, and judge.
DispositionThe result when entered and public.

That criminal PDF is only a setting list. It will not show every motion, plea, judgment, bond, balance, or disposition in a case. So if a field is blank on the docket, the clerk's full case file may still hold it.

Roane County Docket Query Traps

The official case-search form shows each public query control and its interactive verification.

Roane County public case search form
Separate name, year, number, court, and type controls explain why one bad filter can hide a match.

The name box and the Case Reference box share one field. Don't fill them both; adding a year or number on top only muddies the docket query. The system reads just the first ten query words. Quotation marks force a phrase match. Long words get little typo tolerance. Results cap at 2,500 rows. Column headings sort them. The Filter scans only displayed text.

No result is not proof of no case. Check the court, number format, city custody, Chancery or Probate, juvenile restrictions, sealed status, and older references.

Roane County Courts and Their Dockets

Roane County splits its trial courts by workload. Circuit Court takes civil suits over $25,000 plus appeals from the lower courts. Criminal Court handles felony and misdemeanor trials. General Sessions covers limited civil and criminal cases, preliminary hearings, traffic, domestic matters, and the juvenile-judge function. Chancery and Probate records sit with a different clerk.

Roane County Docket Clerk Split

Ann Goldston serves as Circuit Court Clerk. Her office runs the Circuit, Criminal, General Sessions, Juvenile, Traffic, and Collections divisions. Pam May is the Clerk and Master. She holds the Chancery and Probate Rule and Execution dockets, minutes, costs, and related records. Beth G. Johnson is County Clerk. Her office deals with county government, vehicles, licenses, marriages, and legislative records rather than the main court docket. Municipal clerks stand apart entirely. A city ticket belongs first with Oak Ridge, Kingston, Harriman, Rockwood, or Oliver Springs when that court is named. Which office holds the file matters far more than the phrase "county clerk." So write your request to match the split. A Circuit or Criminal request should name Ann Goldston's division. A Chancery or Probate request should name Pam May's office. Rule dockets there track Chancery and Probate activity. Execution dockets track enforcement and collection work. City clerks keep municipal ordinance files. A broad request sent to Beth Johnson because of her title can slow the search. Her published work sits outside the main trial-court docket.

Court Dates and Settings in Roane County

A court date can surface in several places. You might see it on a citation, a summons, the current PDF, a case result, a signed order, or a clerk's response. Local rules describe recurring patterns, not notices for your case. The detailed table and the simpler General Sessions webpage even conflict on some days. Confirm any specific case before you rely on either. The rules set criminal matters on Monday. They place probate on alternating Tuesdays, juvenile and domestic work in midweek blocks, and civil and traffic on assigned Fridays. The webpage simplifies that to Tuesday criminal and Wednesday civil. A later order, a current citation, or a date confirmed by the clerk controls. A continuation marker on the PDF may just mean the list spills onto another page. The Friday pattern also shifts with the judge and the week of the month. Civil matters go before Judge Humphrey on the first and second Friday at 10 a.m. Judge Stevens takes the third and fourth Friday at 9 a.m. Traffic flips part of that lineup. Judge Humphrey takes the third and fourth Friday at 10 a.m., and Judge Stevens the first and second Friday at 9 a.m. The rules also put traffic before Judge Stevens. That happens on the first and second Monday at 5 p.m. These blocks help you read a notice. Only the case-specific setting proves when to appear.

Roane County Docket Access Channels

Online access is only one route. Call with questions. Use (865) 376-2390 for Circuit and Criminal, (865) 376-5584 for General Sessions, (865) 376-3861 for Juvenile, and (865) 376-2487 for Chancery or Probate. The courthouse sits at 200 East Race Street in Kingston. Suite 11 serves Circuit and Criminal. Suite 16 covers General Sessions and Juvenile, and Suite 12 houses the Clerk and Master. Email works too, through ann.goldston@tncourts.gov and roanechanceryclerk@tncourts.gov. Mail a request to the correct suite. State the case, date range, record, and how you want delivery. You can ask to inspect records orally, in person or by phone. Copies require written Form A. Ask about terminal access before you visit. Older material tells a different story. Permanent pre-1973 court records, except Juvenile, live at the Historic Courthouse, 119 Court Street. The newer Records Department sits at 1362 N. Gateway Avenue in Rockwood. Active files stay with the clerk where the case began.

Roane County Dockets Beyond One Portal

The TNCRTINFO multi-county interface searches only the offices that take part, so Tennessee trial-court coverage stays incomplete.

TNCRTINFO multi-county office search
The office-selection model shows why the court and custodian must be known first.

Not every case lives in one system. The AOC Public Case History service handles appeals, so it cannot replace Roane County trial records. Federal matters run through PACER and the Eastern District systems. City citations stay with the municipal courts. Chancery and Probate begin with Pam May. The appellate side can still pay off. It shows a case overview, milestones, parties, document history, trial court, trial judge, and trial-court number. Filings permitted after August 26, 2013 may appear as linked PDFs. That helps when you trace a Roane appeal, though the appellate view never becomes the local official file. PACER likewise delivers federal case and docket access, including matters tied to the Eastern District's Knoxville Division. A county name alone cannot tell you which system holds a case. Jurisdiction and caption decide the route.

Docket Access Under Tennessee Law

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 presumes public access to court dockets. Closure needs legal authority. A statute, another rule, a sealing order, or a protective order can keep sealed material, unpublished drafts, judicial deliberations, internal management information, and other records protected by law confidential.

Key rules:

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 defines court records and protected categories.

Tennessee Public Records Act guidance explains inspection, copies, identification, and response duties.

T.C.A. § 10-7-505 permits judicial review of a qualifying public-record denial.

Sealing can be partial. A public event may stay on the docket while an attachment is sealed or redacted. Juvenile files face a narrower boundary. Ask for the public portion and the general authority behind any restriction. Roane County checks identity too. Policy demands proof of Tennessee citizenship, typically a valid Tennessee driver license or an acceptable alternative form of identification. Inspection-only requests can be oral. Copies, or inspection plus copies, must be written on Form A. The form covers whether inspection or duplication is sought, the preferred delivery method, a detailed record description, and any waiver of an estimate up to a stated amount. The county will not create or reconstruct a record that does not exist. Specific case and date details invite a faster response.

Roane County Docket Copies and Fees

Looking costs nothing under county policy. Copies run $0.15 per black-and-white letter or legal page and $0.50 per color page. Other media cost the actual amount, labor applies after one hour, postage for mail is charged, and an estimate may require prepayment. Personal copying equipment stays prohibited.

RequestDocumented term
InspectionNo fee; an appointment may be set.
Black-and-white$0.15 per page.
Color$0.50 per page.
MailPostage paid first.
Certified copyAsk the clerk; no distinct docket certification fee was located.

Copy terms are not filing fees. Court filing and service charges are separate. Ask for a current quote tied to the exact record. Form A offers delivery choices: on-site pickup, first-class mail, electronic delivery, or another stated method. Your right to an estimate survives. It holds unless you agree to costs up to a stated limit. Payment comes in advance. Cash, personal check, or credit card works, payable to Roane County. More than four requests in one calendar month may be grouped under the county's frequent-request policy. A large request can arrive in segments. Inspection may be scheduled by appointment when staff time and record protection make that reasonable.

How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records

The clerk keeps custody and safekeeping of court documents. Dockets stay reviewable unless law bars access. The office can tell a setting list from a filed order and issue available copies.

Roane County Docket Archive Trail

Roane County was founded in 1801. That leaves a long paper record. The Historic Courthouse stores permanent pre-1973 case files, docket books, and minute books from every court system except Juvenile. Its archive relies on fire-resistant storage, climate controls, acid-free containers, and metal shelving.

A Records Department opened in Rockwood in 2024 for newer county records and digitization work. That does not empty the clerks' active files. Start with the year and the court. The three-location split keeps a historic request away from the active counter, and a pending case out of archive storage.

Archive holdings cover court case files, docket and minute books, estate material, taxes, and other long-term records. Kingston spent one day as Tennessee's capital in 1807. Charming, but it is not a search field. Genealogy work needs specifics. Supply names, an estimated year, the court type, and any known dispute. For records from 1973 forward, ask whether the originating clerk or the Records Department holds the material before you travel. Staff can then tell a docket book entry from the complete case packet.

Modern statistics need the same caution. A 2017 AOC table counted 1,962 Roane entries across selected appointed-counsel and guardian categories. Criminal Court made up 283. General Sessions made up 1,547. Neither figure equals total filings. They also do not count the cases on today's docket, since they describe one particular reporting measure. Tennessee Judge Stats updates quarterly from clerk reports and offers newer judicial workload context, but never use it to infer the status of one case.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Roane County

City citations start with that city's court clerk. They do not automatically appear in TNCRTINFO. Each city keeps its own dates, payment paths, and record keeper. A state-law or appealed case may later land in a county court, so ask whether a new case number was assigned.

Oak Ridge Court Records

Tuesday and Thursday municipal settings; the clerk confirms current location.

Kingston Court Records

Fourth-Tuesday evening court for traffic and other ordinances.

Harriman Court Records

Last-Monday City Court with local clerk and payment channels.

Rockwood Court Records

Municipal citation docket with published plea and reset procedures.

Oliver Springs Court Records

Twice-monthly city sessions with clerk, mail, and online paths.

Each Roane County city runs its court docket a little differently. Oak Ridge sits partly in Anderson County. The city on the citation sets the docket search route. Kingston hears cases in its City Hall courtroom. Harriman's own clerk handles payment and date questions. Rockwood offers phone hearings for some moving violations, proof-of-correction steps, and a courtesy-reset rule. Oliver Springs wants mailed payments to include identifying citation details under its own processing terms. A generic county assumption is the wrong place to start a municipal docket search.

Appeals and higher-tier charges change the destination. Ask the city clerk which court received the case. General Sessions takes limited county matters and preliminary stages. Circuit Court hears permitted appeals, and Criminal Court holds felony and misdemeanor trial jurisdiction. The receiving office may issue a new case number. Keep the municipal citation number as a cross-reference, but search the new county identifier in TNCRTINFO when looking up the court record.
